I rarely read newspapers so I usually do not see still images of current events. This photograph was taken on August 24, 2007 and is the result of the damage which Hurricane Dean inflicted upon Mexico City. I really like this photograph because I like the contrast between the power of nature (the whirlpool) against a landscape created by man. The coloring within the photograph is subdued and has an overall gray tone which I like because I believe it suits the content. Even though there is a multitude of objects within the photograph the focal point is the whirlpool which though very simple grabs the viewers eye far sooner then the other objects in the background. I also enjoy the photograph because the image doesn’t even need to be accompanied by text in order to be powerful or relay a message.
