This is a satellite image of my hometown, Bangor, Maine. I love this image because I am provided with a whole new perspective of an area in which I am so familiar. I have driven the roads, swam in the lakes and boated up and down the rivers within the image. I find it remarkable that the land and city which seem so expansive from the viewpoint of the passenger seat of a car can represent such a small segment of land in an aerial photograph. Due in part to the altitude at which the image was taken, it is difficult to see any specific objects or details however; I feel that the vantage point helps to enhance and emphasize the size of the lakes and rivers. Although the date of the satellite image was not provided, I am going to assume that it was taken during the summer months due in part to the lush green coloring of the trees and the fact that the river is not frozen over.
